ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has dismissed reports of secret negotiations involving Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Speaking outside Adiala Jail on Monday, Gohar clarified that the PTI’s official negotiation committee, formed by Imran Khan, is handling discussions with the government. He emphasized that Bushra Bibi has no involvement in these talks.
“So far, two rounds of talks have taken place with the government’s committee,” Gohar stated. “A third round will only happen after we meet Imran Khan.” He added that the party is awaiting confirmation to meet Imran in jail.
PTI’s demands remain straightforward: the release of political prisoners and the formation of a judicial commission. “Imran Khan has set a clear timeframe for these demands,” Gohar said.
The PTI leader also expressed hope that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi would be acquitted in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, reiterating that Imran did not benefit personally from the case.
Meanwhile, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram criticized the government for delaying the negotiation process, accusing them of lacking seriousness and attempting to derail talks.
Separately, Sunni Ittehad Council head Sahibzada Hamid Raza revealed that the PTI had reached out to the National Assembly Speaker, but the government has yet to approve a meeting between Imran Khan and the negotiation team.
PTI senior leader Asad Qaiser reassured that the party remains committed to resolving the political deadlock through dialogue. He urged both sides to avoid actions that could disrupt the talks and called for clear communication among all stakeholders.
The PTI’s negotiation committee is expected to meet Imran Khan in Adiala Jail soon, pending approval from the jail administration.
