Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is working closely with its opposition allies to ease tensions between the party and the military establishment, hoping to gain relief for its imprisoned founder, Imran Khan. The party is also preparing for a new phase of anti-government protests following Eid.
Sources say that PTI has reached out to several leaders from opposition parties, including Allama Raja Nasir Abbas of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Mehmood Khan Achakzai of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), asking them to help calm Khan’s anger and address the controversial role of PTI’s social media. The party hopes these actions will help create political space for PTI and ease tensions with the military.
Abbas is reportedly planning to visit Imran Khan in Adiala Jail and was urged by PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, to convince Khan to cool down and allow the party to return to normal politics. However, some inside sources suggest that attempts to reduce the temperature have been met with resistance from key opposition leaders.
Although PTI plans to launch its protest movement after Eid, many within the party want to avoid the confrontational politics of the past. These leaders believe that if Imran Khan refrains from making harsh statements and the partyโs social media stops fueling conflict, the situation could improve for PTI.
As Pakistan faces an increasing number of terrorist incidents, some PTI leaders feel it is crucial for the party to publicly support the state and its institutions in combating terrorism. Despite the ongoing internal tension regarding the role of PTIโs social media, the party recognizes that only Imran Khan has the authority to stop these online provocations.
