A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for sharing private photos and videos of a woman with her fiancé and family on WhatsApp in 2021. The court found Muhammad Anas guilty of cyberstalking and blackmail under Pakistan’s Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.
The court sentenced Anas to two years for each of the charges and imposed a fine of Rs 90,000, or an additional 60 days in prison. Forensic evidence, including mobile phone analysis, proved that Anas had sent the private images to multiple people.
The woman, who had been in a relationship with Anas for several years, had initially shared these private photos and videos with him. However, after their relationship ended and she got engaged to someone else, Anas sent the material to her fiancé and family members, violating her privacy.
The court stated that the motive for Anas’s actions seemed to be revenge and control, aiming to harm the woman emotionally and socially. The prosecution successfully used witness testimony and forensic evidence to show the accused’s role in the crime.
The victim had earlier reported to the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Circle, explaining how Anas blackmailed her into sending more explicit photos, which he later shared after her engagement. Anas denied the charges, claiming that the woman filed the complaint after his family rejected her marriage proposal.
