DG ISPR: Army Uninterested in Dialogue with Political Parties

DG ISPR The Director General of the Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has firmly stated that the Pakistani Army will not engage in political talks with any party. Speaking in a recent interview, he emphasized that dialogue is the responsibility of political leaders, not the military. He urged all political entities to resolve conflicts among themselves and keep the army out of politics.

General Chaudhry made it clear that the military’s role is focused solely on national security and defence operations. Any interaction with the state occurs through constitutional channels and elected governments. He warned against dragging the armed forces into political disputes, saying such actions harm morale within the ranks.

The DG ISPR also addressed growing rumours of secret backchannel links between the military and political groups. He described these claims as baseless and encouraged politicians to present evidence if they believed such contacts existed. “We request that politics be kept within political circles and the armed forces be left out of it,” he stressed.

He noted that criticism is acceptable when warranted, but propaganda and false statements are harmful. The army remains committed to its apolitical stance and will not support or oppose any party. This position reflects the institution’s dedication to remaining a neutral pillar of the state and upholding democratic processes.
