PRAYAGRAJ: A tragic stampede at the Kumbh Mela festival has left over 30 people dead and many others injured. The incident took place on Wednesday as millions of pilgrims rushed to take a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers.
The stampede occurred when the crowd, in a panic, surged toward the Triveni Sangam – the point where the Ganges, Yamuna, and Sarasvati rivers meet, a site of great spiritual importance for Hindus. As the crowd grew out of control, many people were trampled, and a barrier collapsed, trapping several pilgrims, including women and children.
Despite claims of crowd management efforts, local officials struggled to handle the massive turnout at one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of pilgrims at the Kumbh Mela, which attracts millions of people every decade.
