ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Junaid Akbar has resigned from his position as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), following the instructions of his party.
According to details, Junaid Akbar submitted his resignation to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, saying he accepted the decision made by party founder Imran Khan.
“I was given this position on party instructions and now I’m stepping down as per the same,” he said.
“If Imran Khan asks, I’m even ready to resign from my National Assembly seat,” he added.
Junaid Akbar was elected PAC Chairman on January 25, 2025, after a long delay following the February 2024 general elections. The position had remained vacant as both the PTI-backed opposition and the government blamed each other for the holdup.
The breakthrough came after the government demanded a panel from PTI-backed SIC (Sunni Ittehad Council), leading to an emergency PAC meeting. The panel included Junaid Akbar and Adil Bazai.
Interestingly, Junaid Akbar’s name was proposed by PML-N MNA Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and there was no objection from any committee member, resulting in a unanimous selection at the time.
Now, just a few months later, the PTI has decided to withdraw its nomination, signaling a strategic shift in party decisions regarding parliamentary roles.
