Punjab Arms License Issuance Now Handled by Deputy Commissioners

LAHORE: The authority to issue arms licenses in Punjab has been shifted to deputy commissioners under the Punjab Arms Rules 2023, according to a spokesperson for the Home Department.

Under the new rules, deputy commissioners and the additional secretary of the Judicial Department in the Home Department have been given the following responsibilities:

  • Issuing licenses for weapon repairs
  • Renewing expired weapon repair licenses
  • Issuing duplicate weapon repair licenses
  • Approving duplicate firearm licenses

Additionally, the authority to make changes in weapon bore and increase ammunition limits remains with the deputy commissioners and the Judicial Department.

As per the rules, deputy commissioners must share updated arms license records with the Home Department every month. This move aims to streamline the process and improve record-keeping across the province.
