No Taxes on Fertilizers and Pesticides, Says PM Shehbaz in Budget 2025–26

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the federal budget for 2025–26 will not include any new taxes on fertilizers and pesticides. This decision aims to support Pakistan’s farmers by keeping the cost of these essential agricultural inputs low.

In his statement, PM Shehbaz emphasized how vital farming is for the country’s economy and food security. He noted that agriculture employs a large part of the population and contributes significantly to overall economic growth. By avoiding new taxes on fertilizers and pesticides, the government intends to help farmers produce more crops without the burden of increased costs.

The prime minister also mentioned that this measure will help control prices of fruits, vegetables, and grains, making food more affordable for everyday families. Keeping input costs stable, he said, would reduce inflation in the agricultural sector and benefit both producers and consumers.

Furthermore, PM Shehbaz highlighted other planned agricultural reforms, including better access to credit for farmers, investments in modern farming tools, and improvements in water supply and irrigation systems. Together, he said, these steps would boost farm yields and strengthen the country’s food reserves.

Many farmers and industry experts have welcomed the decision. They believe that exempting fertilizers and pesticides from new taxes will help revive rural economies, raise crop production, and promote a stable food supply for the nation.
