Pakistan has once again called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take urgent steps toward resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute. This renewed appeal was made during a recent diplomatic engagement, where Pakistan stressed that the unresolved issue continues to threaten peace and stability in South Asia. Officials argued that lasting peace between Pakistan and India cannot be achieved without addressing the situation in Indian-administered Kashmir.
The Pakistani government highlighted that the region has remained in a state of unrest, particularly since August 2019 when India revoked Article 370, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Since then, Pakistan has consistently raised concerns over human rights violations and restrictions imposed on the people of the region. Islamabad maintains that Kashmiris should be granted their right to self-determination, as promised by various UN resolutions.
Pakistan’s representatives emphasized the responsibility of the UNSC to ensure implementation of its own resolutions, which call for a fair and impartial plebiscite in Kashmir. They urged the international community to play a more active role instead of treating the conflict as a bilateral issue only. According to Pakistani officials, silence on the matter allows the situation to deteriorate further and deepens the suffering of the Kashmiri people.
This call comes amid rising tensions in the region, as both countries continue to deploy heavy military presence along the Line of Control. Pakistan insists that dialogue and diplomacy must replace conflict and confrontation, but argues that these efforts will only be meaningful if the core issue of Kashmir is addressed.
The world now watches whether the United Nations will respond to Pakistan’s appeal and move toward a peaceful resolution, or if the region will remain locked in a cycle of dispute and instability.
