The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has unveiled a new facial recognition service designed to assist elderly citizens across Pakistan.
As part of NADRA’s New Year initiatives, this feature aims to simplify identity verification for seniors, particularly those facing difficulties with fingerprint recognition due to age-related issues.
The decision was announced during a meeting at NADRA headquarters, attended by key officials and regulatory representatives. NADRA Chairman Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Afsar emphasized the challenges pensioners face with diminished fingerprint clarity and underlined the significance of adopting modern technology to resolve these issues.
From January 15, 2025, this advanced facial recognition technology will be available nationwide via the Pak-ID mobile app and at NADRA centers. Officials predict that this innovation will transform identity verification, making it more inclusive and efficient for all.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted other forward-looking projects, including the “National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework” and the “Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP),” both of which aim to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation and strengthen its economy.
This initiative underscores NADRA’s dedication to employing cutting-edge technology to improve access to essential services, ensuring better support for Pakistan’s elderly population.
