ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, which aims to protect energy infrastructure and ensure safe passage in the Black Sea.
During a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan praised the U.S. for mediating the deal and expressed hope that this step would lead to a long-term and comprehensive peace agreement.
“Pakistan has always maintained a balanced stance on the Ukraine conflict, advocating for dialogue, diplomacy, and an end to hostilities. We value our friendly relations with both Russia and Ukraine,” he stated.
Pakistan Condemns Israeli Strikes on Syria
The spokesperson also criticized Israel’s repeated airstrikes in Syria, calling them violations of international law and the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. He stressed that lasting peace in Syria depends on political reconciliation and inclusive governance.
Concerns Over Kashmir Crackdown
Khan condemned recent raids by Indian authorities on members of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), stating that such actions aim to suppress dissent and intimidate locals. He urged India to respect Kashmiris’ fundamental rights, including their right to self-determination.
Response to UN Experts on Balochistan Protests
The spokesperson dismissed a recent UN statement demanding the release of Baloch protesters, calling it one-sided. He argued that such protests often involve disruptive and violent elements rather than peaceful demonstrators.
