Pakistan is set to install modern e-gates at three of its busiest international airports: Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. These electronic gates will help speed up immigration by using advanced biometric technology to check passengers automatically, without the need for manual processing.
The new system is designed to improve the travel experience by reducing long lines at passport control. It will allow travelers with e-passports to scan their documents, verify their identity through facial recognition or fingerprint scans, and pass through quickly and securely.
Work has already started at Islamabad and Lahore airports, where site surveys have been completed. A similar survey at Karachi airport is currently underway. The entire project, from planning to installation, is expected to be completed within two years.
Officials say the e-gates will meet international standards and connect with global travel systems. Once active, the gates will save time, reduce pressure on immigration staff, and offer passengers a smoother journey.
This move is part of Pakistan’s broader effort to modernize its airports and adopt the latest travel technologies. With e-gates in place, Pakistan will join many other countries in offering faster and more secure airport services to both citizens and foreign visitors.
