KARACHI:
Sindh’s Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, made it clear on Monday that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will not compromise on the controversial canal project, and will engage in talks only to bring it to an end.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Ghani responded to the PML-N, saying, “They need to stop thinking we’ll back down. We haven’t compromised on any issue so far, and we won’t start now.”
He criticized some PML-N leaders for lacking a constructive approach, questioning their intentions: “We don’t even know who they’re trying to please.”
Saeed Ghani emphasized that the PPP is not speaking out on the issue for political gain, but because it’s their responsibility to protect the people’s rights. “This isn’t about politics — this is about our mandate from the people of Sindh,” he said.
The minister also raised concerns over water and gas distribution. “Sindh isn’t getting its fair share of river water,” he noted. “And the gas produced in Sindh is being supplied to other provinces while our own people suffer.”
He reminded the public that the PPP has protested before on Sindh’s gas rights and said, “Any gas produced in Sindh should first meet the needs of Sindh’s people.”
