Multan – Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) President Professor Dr. Masood Al-Roof Haraj has raised serious concerns over the poor construction quality of Nishtar 2 Hospital, calling it unsafe for staff and patients. He urged Punjab Chief Minister to order a third-party audit and launch an official inquiry.
Speaking at a press conference at Multan Press Club, Dr. Haraj highlighted severe staff shortages due to the lack of SNE (Sanctioned New Establishment) approval for the 500-bed facility. He stated that despite promises from the Punjab Health Minister and Secretary, approvals for over 1,000 doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff remain pending.
He revealed that the hospital building is deteriorating, with three entrances already closed and the remaining pillars at risk of collapse. Additionally, the hospital lacks free medicines and diagnostic facilities for patients.
Dr. Haraj also demanded that doctors working at Nishtar 2 be given permanent jobs, similar to those at Narowal Hospital. He called for an immediate appointment of an executive director at South Punjab’s only Burn Unit and urged the government to resolve security and janitorial staff salary issues, as employees haven’t been paid for four months.
Other PMA representatives, including Dr. Imran Qaisrani, Waqas Afzal, Matloob Mughal, Zulqarnain Haider, Mazhar Rasool, Khalid Rand, and Adnan Basheer, were also present at the press conference.
